In NYC this past weekend, Lee Kalcheim, Stuart Fuld and I shared an "entering our fourth quarter" brunch at the "French Roast" cafe, as we approached our 75th birthdays with appropriate vim and vigor (and with a couple of our wives). It was a wonderful mini-reunion!

Thomas Schneider, thanks for putting up that page! There are plenty of pictures here of the "old" days, but it is great to see what the lake looks like now. For anyone who is Facebook challenged, here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/LakeManataka?ref=ts&fref=ts

It was wonderful to find this Knocker! I was looking up my distant Uncle Dave Sechrist just out of curiousity as his nephew Tom Owens died April 13. I grew up on the Stuble farm directly across the lake and I spent two wonderful summers washing dishes at KK. I still have my first SS card with... (more)

Agreed with Cohen's Feb 10th note about the value of Dave S's essay. I haven't time to reread it now, but would like to again, suspect I will soon. I came to the site today hoping to easily find an interior photograph of Dave's 'nature lodge.' I believe I've downloaded such a thing but can't... (more)

I read Dave Sechrist's Memoirs of Kewanee today (you can find it under the Table of Kontents at the upper right of WFIL's Knocker). It is as wonderful as ever. I have promised myself to re-read it every five years - and I hope all of us do. Kee Kee Wah!

I was back at Rocco's Tacos (Boca Raton, FL) this evening for dinner. The gal from Lake Manakaka waited on us again. This time I got her full name. It is Sara Tylutki. Her family still lives at the end of the lake. (The bull frogs continue to thrive in the lilly pads and are as loud as ever.) I... (more)

RC I am not sure what is more amazing that you met someone from Fleetville, that the girl admitted, or that there were actually people who lived in Fleetville nevertheless on our lake. I would have thought that the message to this girl would have been to not visit this camp as the boys haven't... (more)

Last night at Rocco’s Tacos (Boca Raton, FL) we had a server named Sara who hails from Fleetville, PA. Her family owns one of the few homes on Lake Manakata. As a young girl, Sara was told not to visit the Kamp area because the buildings were haunted. I, of course, confirmed that the spirits of... (more)
