Chas, so sorry to hear about John. I do not know if you are aware or not, John was my first Kounselor in Tent 17 when I came to Kamp in 1955. Further I ran away from Kamp the first day, got all the way to the airport, where your brother and I think Roy David came to get me. Your brother was a great influence on me my first year. Enough so, that I came back four more years as a Kamper then a Kounselor.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING FRIDAY NIGHT LODGING.

80 days until the great 2011 Kewanee Reunion, and registrations are rolling in. Please return your registration form as soon as possible. An accurate forecast of the attendance will help us greatly in our ongoing dealings with the facility, the caterers and other suppliers. We will send you confirmation once we receive your registration form and check.

As you know, the main festivities will be held Saturday night, September 10th, at the Ace Center in Lafayette Hill, PA, site of the previous four KK reunions, where we will enjoy drinks, dinner and speakers representing several generations of Kewaneeans.

Many out-of-town attendees are planning to arrive the day before the reunion - Friday, September 9th.

To best accommodate them, we have arranged for a block of rooms to be held for us at the Best Western Fort Washington Inn ( bestwesternfortwashington.com ), which has offered us a group rate of $85/night, full breakfast and free in-room wi-fi included. The hotel has a restaurant, an outdoor pool, and is right off the Pennsylvania Turnpike and 8 miles from Nehru's house - about a 12 minute ride. Our contact person at the hotel is Judy Braun, group sales manager, extension 286 at the hotel phone number 215-542-7930.

We made these arrangements because the Ace Center does not have any more rooms available for Friday night. (The Ace Center does, however, still have rooms available for Saturday night for anyone who would like to stay there after the reunion banquet.)

Some of you may already be on a waiting list for Friday night at the Ace Center. We ask that if you decide to stay at the Best Western on Friday that you let the Ace Center know, after your new reservation is confirmed.

If you have any questions, please contact Dick Sundheim at JoanAndDickHello@aol.com or 215-635-4935.

Maybe they will let you put up tents on the Ace Center grounds. You could number them and make it an authentic Kewanee experience!

We have just learned that the Ace Center does not currently have available rooms for Friday, September 9th -- the night before the Reunion. (The Reunion dinner is Saturday night, September 10th.) We are currently working through this issue with them.

We will either arrange for some rooms there or suggest suitable (and comparable) lodging for that night. You will hear from us soon.

Arrangements can still be made through Sheryl O'Neill at the Ace Center who is working with us on the problem.

In the meantime, please be assured that Saturday night lodging is not affected.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Dick Sundheim at JoanAndDickHello@aol.com or 215-635-4935.

Charles, I am so deeply, deeply saddened. The last time we were together, in Aspen three or four years ago, Lorna and I sang "When the Moon Shines" with John and Barbara in their back yard. And the moon was indeed shining that evening - and in my memory it will ever be so.

See some photos of kamp taken by Lou Moskowitz a couple of weeks ago. Thanks, Lou.

Chas - my condolences. John was a legendary Kewaneean with a long run, starting as a kamper in 1944, on the Honor Plaque in '51 and a kounselor until 1958. A sad loss.

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of a great Keewanian John Gold. Johnny to many loved Kewanee with all his heart and the many many lifelong friendships developed in La Plume meant all the world to him.My brother, mentor, hero was the best and we will miss him dearly.During the last year we would often sing "WHEN THE MOON SHINES" over the phone and it seemed to give him pleasure.Let's raise our bugjuice glasses or something stronger from Walt's to him in September. Charles

Everyone who requested a copy of the 2011 Kamp Directory should have received theirs by now. Most of them were mailed out a few months ago in March. If you asked for one but have not received it yet, please let me know and I'll look into it.

Fred,
I knew Chuck and Bill. Bill is a little closer to my age. Besides being nice guys, I remember they had arms that could throw a rocket of a softball.
My wife and I arrived in Canton today and our stuff arrives Wednesday. We are excited to be here and to meet your cousin Fran and her husband PJ (who was friends with my dentist from Indy at Indiana U.)
This is going to be a good fit and anyone who wants to visit the hall of fame, let me know.

Retired in December as a psychologist in Syracuse for 42+ years. Married in May in Sonoma to Martha Copithorne of Plymouth and Ossipee, New Hampshire. Planning to relocate to Ossipee, NH for extended summers and to Center City Philadelphia to recapture my roots. Looking forward to my first reunion and to reconnect. I know there are KKers in Phila. Any in NH?

Talk about a small world. Cherie and I have been traveling around the country for the last two plus months and on Friday I decide to visit the KK website. I notice Jon "Moose" Adland's post about moving to Canton, OH. If my memory serves me correctly he and my brother Chuck were friends at KK and I met him during my visit there in 1966. My first cousin lives in Canton and I can say having exchanged several e-mails with her that they are very excited to have Jon moving there. Thanks WFIL for the tremendous work you did on the directory (it arrived just before leaving on our trip in March) and we are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in September. Sorry to hear about Bruce Slaff, he was a camper in my tent one year. Wasn't he originally from Kingston or Wilks-barre?

Sandy - that was one of the dates being considered, but the final date of September 10th was set last October. I hope you can make it. I'm putting together the reunion registration packets now and will be mailing them out in a few days.

Nice to see posts from familiar names. Hello to all.

I just watched Steve Buch's video, beginning with the scene at the Harrisburg (regional, not international) Airport. The guy in the seersucker suit and straw hat was my grandfather, Lee Goldsmith, who was there to see my cousin J.P. Goldsmith off.

Recent news: Bruce Slaff who began his KK summers in 1960 recently suffered a stroke. After two months of hospitalization and rehab, he is home. His mind is perfect and he's improving physically. I cheered him greatly by bringing some old KK pictures of us.
