I just received the DVD of our Reunion which brought back wonderful memories of a special day. SAAAAAm and Dovid did a wonderful job which included some kamp pictures. Thanks to both of them for preserving this. Dave

Dear Robert,

Thank you so much! I have saved your message - I really wish I had known him. He sounded like a pretty cool friend! I realize now that he was younger than I thought when he passed away. It's bittersweet to know what a warm, likeable, and happy kid he was, and that he left a lasting impression on you. Oh, how I wish I had inherited his athletic genes! I know what you mean about not usually remembering younger camp mates, and I'm quite pleased that Johnny was one of the very few. I will keep your recollections in my family genealogy book which I am working on. Again, a most heartfelt thank you!

Dear Johanna,
I remember Johnny very well! I was a camper in '47-'53 and a counselor for five years after that, and I found him a very fascinating young boy when he was in his early teens - to the extent that I dropped down to his tent a couple of times to chat with him at rest hour. He was a good athlete and and a very bright and good-natured kid. I was deeply disappointed I heard he dropped out of camp in the mid '50s, then delighted when I heard, while working in the pre-camp set-up a couple of years later (in 1958 I think), that he was coming back that summer - and then I was devastated when just a day or two later I heard that he had died! So sad. I now often think of my camp friends who were as old or older than I was, but rarely of those who were younger; Johnny, however, was one of the rare ones!

I realize this is a real longshot, but my mother's brother, Johnny Finkelman, was a kamper sometime in '50-'53. I am desperately looking for any memories about him, as my mother and my grandparents never spoke of him. Johnny died very young, I believe around 17 years old from pneumonia. All that is left of his memory is a few pictures and some woodworking from his camp and school days. Does anyone have any recollection of him during his time at camp that you can share with me? Photos, vignettes, memories, or even a brief recollection of his personality? Any information would be dearly treasured. I wish I could have known the boy who would have been my uncle and for whom I am named (Johanna is a derivative of John). Thank you most sincerely.

Want a film of the terrific 2015 reunion? Sam Straus has completed his video of it, and you can order a copy for just $15 to cover expenses - and also get copies of the 2011 and 2006 reunions for the same amount, or $40 for all three of them. You can download his order form and mailing address at: www.kampkewanee.com/reunion2015/2015_DvdOrderForm.pdf, KKW, BS

What a fantastic reunion! Hats off to the planning committee and especially Dick Nehru for the Friday evening gathering. We're still talking about it and most folks cannot believe the great magnet Kewanee has lo these many years later. KKW.

Great being with all you young guys at the reunion. You too, Doc, Charles and Victor! And a loud KKW for all the organizers and emcee Dave.

Trivia question. Does anyone know how deep the lake is? And also, what was the depth by the raft? I am guessing about 15 feet.

Wonderful seeing all of you. What good times we had. What wonderful memories. I echo others. Thanks for all the organization, Dave Rutstein, Steve Klein, BS Cohen. And a special thanks to Nehru for hosting Friday night. Ricky Vatz: we missed you. But no tennis at the Ambler. After the reunion, I drove to DC and saw the Redskins win! But the euphoria was short lived for anyone who watched the Skins/Giants last night. Am now back in sunny Sarasota. KKW

I wonder if there are any other camps (or any other organizations) which closed 42 years ago and are able to maintain the same level of loyalty and devotion. I was overwhelmed by everyone's attendance and responses. What a joy to relive a wonderful time in our collective lives, albeit for a very short time. Dave

Hats off to Nehru , David Rutstein ,
Robert S Cohen and Wifil Klein for planning and executing such a wonderful reunion. Thank you Sam and David Strauss for providing perfect sound for all the speeches. Thanks to Lee Kalcheim for writing a delightful talk that made us all laugh. Skinny Ennis still got the last laugh with his remark that he has the funeral home on speed dial. Kewanee has meant so much in our lives and continues to do so. To quot an old song, " There's magic." I still feel the magic. We are so lucky!

This was the best reunion ever.. The Kampers and Kounselors I knew and those who I didn't know were all great to reminisce with. The organizers did a superb job and set the tone for a weekend filled with "those events that alter and illuminate our times." I felt immersed in 1950's La Plumian culture and, at the same time, I felt nostalgia and a current sense of gratitude for all Kewanee taught me. Cousin Steve and I talked about the reunion all the way home. And then I talked it over in more detail with my wife when I got home. Thanks KK for all you did and all you still do.

KK so enriched my life and each reunion adds to the enrichment. Thanks for the friendships and rekindled memories. I was not a great athlete at KK or afterward but somehow I blossomed at KK in several track events and in the backstroke. Several campers commented on my KK track activities, which brought back a new flood of memories and made me feel great. I couldn't wait to run home and tell my very athletically skilled son. A GREAT reunion. Thanks a million to the organizers.

May G-d bless Joel. He did incredible work on behalf of the Hispanic community in the national capital area. Have not seen him in years, but have great memories of him at Kamp and when we last saw each other in DC.

Sorry I am unable to attend the reunion, but tomorrow evening we are attending the final episode of "Sabado Gigante" in Miami. Our dear friend of close to 40-years, Mario Kreutzberger (a.k.a Don Francisco), is hosting his last show of a 53 year run. In that time he missed only one program because of his mother's passing. We will be with Mario and his family.

I am there in spirit as will be my uncle Mike Ellis (Meyer Abrahamson) who loved Kewanee.

Kee Kee Wah!

Wishing everyone a great time. I am stuck here in LA this weekend. I'm responding to an irresistible urge I've been having to drill a hole in a thin, flat rock using the piecing blade on my pocket knife.
Rest in Peace Joel.

First, so sorry to hear about the passing of Joel Skirble. He was a fine person who always had the interests of the underclass at heart. Second, for those who might read this before the reunion and might be interested in drinks/food at or near the Ambler Inn on Friday night, I expect to arrive sometime around 7 PM. Can be reached by phone or text at 650-793-1398 or email at fredhalf@stanfordalumni.org. KEE KEE WAH and looking forward to seeing many of you soon.
