The way you found out there was NO INSPECTION on JULY 4th was by listening to RADIO STATION WARM 590. They told us at the mees hall to listen to the radio for a special announcement directed to Kamp Kewanee Kampers. After it was broadcast, you heard loud cheers up & down the tent line.

Happy 4th to all! I remember marching around camp banging pots. Haychel would then read the Gettysburg Address. We were never sure why he picked that to read.

Happy July 4th to all. Seems to me that July 4th was a big deal at KK. I remember fireworks. Any other memories to share?

Ah! Shadowbrook was it. Q: If Shadowbrook was the home of the SBD, who introduced the flaming LBF to the tent line--more precisely the Knocker office?
FYI Jeremiah: "Mending" socks was the G rated version. The other version asked, "Why is Schlager Lager Brew like making love in a canoe?" "Because they are both ____ing close to water". Can you fill in the blank?

P.S. I am prohibited by the terms of a legal settlement from posting Andy's last name here.

If there's any confusion as to which "Andy" I'm referring to, it's the one who's capable of eating hundreds of dollars' worth of food at Shadowbrook, obviously.

The original Shadowbrook (home of the "SBD") is gone, replaced by a Perkins Pancake House.

The Shadowbrook family opened a little joint down 6/11 a bit but I think they only sell ice cream to go?

My father and I went to Shadowbrook about once a year in the years before they closed. They had above-average grilled cheese sandwiches. My father would make a big deal about "treating" me to lunch - the bill for the two of us would come to about $6.50. (Had Andy been with us though, you could've added several digits to the left of the decimal.

I seem to remember that some of the counselors called beer "the amber fluid".

Sorry, it's because they are "both DARNED close to water."

Schlager Lager brew is like MENDING socks in a canoe. Because they are both darn close to water.

Bill, is the ice cream place you're referring to Shaddowbrook? Some were interested in beer, for me it was always food!

Two words: Schaefer Beer. I am surprised that David Rutstein forgot that one. I have a clear image of his having one in his hand and discoursing on its being the one beer to drink if you are going to drink a lot. Did that conversation take place over some steamed clams at the Fleetville Fair? What was the name of that ice creme place we would go to to coat our stomachs with milk so we would not absorb all of the alcohol? Bob Stephens was a habitue as I recall.

Or like mending socks in a canoe. . . .

Tiger says he is ready for the next reunion. Does anyone else agree?

In honor of the reappearance of Tiger Levy, a reminder that "Schlager Lager Brew is like making love in a canoe."
